What is Grand Tech?

IEEE Grand Tech (GT) is an IEEE Region 8 Computer Society initiative, which originates from the IEEE Hashemite University Computer Society Chapter from Jordan in 2014. This Technical event is focused on showcasing technological advancement, and major innovations in the industry. 

IEEE Grand Tech Lebanon aims to be the largest technology-related student conference in Lebanon, bringing together distinguished professionals, researchers, and entrepreneurs to share their experiences and current work in computing technologies. 

This year’s edition will tackle the futuristic themes of Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) and their relation to the Metaverse.

IEEE Grand Tech Lebanon 2023 will take place at the University of Balamand, on Saturday June 3rd, 2023. The conference is co-organized by IEEE Young Professionals Lebanon and IEEE Computer Society Lebanon, and hosted by the IEEE Student Branch at the University of Balamand.

GT Lebanon ’23 – Competition:

Welcome to the University Metaverse Showcase Competition, an exciting event that brings together the innovative minds of students to leverage the power of the Metaverse and shape the future of education! Participants will log into a dynamic Metaverse platform, armed with a vast array of tools and possibilities, to bring their creative ideas to life. This exhilarating competition will put participants’ skills and creativity to the test as they strive to craft immersive and interactive environments. Each team will have a one-hour time limit to design and build their Metaverse space, making efficient use of the available resources and pushing the boundaries of virtual reality.
Throughout the competition, students will receive guidance from experienced mentors who specialize in Metaverse technologies and virtual environments. These mentors will provide valuable insights and support, helping participants navigate the Metaverse platform and refine their ideas to ensure they align with the university’s vision and goals.

Competition Guidelines:

• Teams will consist of at least two and at most three individuals, fostering collaboration and diverse perspectives in the creation process.
• The winning spaces will be determined based on a comprehensive evaluation process.
• The judging criteria will be based on a combination of factors. The competition judges, consisting of experts in Metaverse technologies and education, will evaluate the Metaverse spaces based on creativity, functionality, integration of university services, and impact on the learning experience. Their evaluations will account for 60% of the overall score.
• Social media engagement will play a role in determining the winners. This social media component will contribute to 40% of the overall score.
